Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Kolkata, the city police have announced strict traffic control measures on 14 and 15 September. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Combined Commanders Conference 2025 at the Eastern Command Headquarters in Fort William on Monday, 15 September.
To ensure security and smooth movement, Kolkata Police stated that the movement of heavy and cargo vehicles will be completely banned on several key routes. On Sunday, 14 September, restrictions will apply from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, covering stretches such as VIP Road, Ultadanga New Flyover to EM Bypass, Raj Bhavan South Gate to Maa Flyover via RR Avenue-Red Road-J&N Island, and AGC Bose Flyover to J&N Island.
On Monday, 15 September, heavy vehicles will be restricted from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm between Raj Bhavan South Gate to Fort William East Gate and Khidirpur Road via RR Avenue-Red Road-J&N Island. Additionally, from 6:00 am on 14 September to 11:00 pm on 15 September, no heavy vehicle movement will be allowed around Raj Bhavan.
From 11:00 pm on 14 September to 6:00 am on 15 September, the section between Government Place East and Esplanade Row East Crossing to Old Court House Street and BBD Bagh South Crossing will remain closed. Police have also clarified that the restrictions may be extended depending on the situation, with traffic diverted to alternative routes.
